Adobe Business Catalyst: No comparison to WordPress.

This article is not to bash WordPress, but to give people insight on Business Catalyst (BC). BC is not a blog engine, however it can do blogs. This platform is software designed for business owners, that want to build a business online. It is not shopify, but it has eCommerce capabilities. WordPress and BC have many thing in common, but they're not the same. One similarity worth noting would be that they are both open platforms:

WordPress is for free and BC you have to pay a pretty penny. In Economics they say that trade equals wealth, and I would say that you get your monies worth if you choose BC! Here is why I prefer this platform over WordPress:

1) Websites behave as web application/platform, rather than an online brochure.

What does that mean to you?

  • You can make your website interactive, given your end-users a personalized experience.
  • You get access to a complex reporting system that allows you understand your clientele better, and be more proactive in offering content that your clients demand.

2) Business Catalyst has an integrated marketing system.

What does that mean to you?

  • You can create and track KPI’s/sales goals, that will help maximize your marketing performance.
  • You can collect, and keep detailed records on your customers, which is important in building strong relationships with them. You will also get reminders to follow-up with them, which will allow you to keep your finger on the pulse.
  • You can create email marketing campaigns, to drive more existing traffic to your website.

3) Take payments online or build a complex
E-commerce website.

What does that mean to you?

  • You will be able to track your inventory, and create invoices online.
  • You can sell products and services online, thus eliminating barriers preventing customers to buy.
  • You can use your website as a point of sales system.

4) Receive SMS notifications when a customer fills out a webform.

What does that mean to you?

  • You will never lose communication with your prospects.

5) Business Catalyst is reliable and secure.

“Business Catalyst has a multitude of security mechanisms in place, such as AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Access Control), attack detection and annihilation mechanisms, encryption of sensitive data, firewalls, anti-virus, etc. Business Catalyst is a PCI Level 1 compliant product . Accordingly, all cardholders data specific mechanisms, environments, policies, procedures, etc. have been audited for security compliance by an accredited 3rd party investigator. The Business Catalyst code and environments are regularly tested for security holes both manually and using various 3rd party penetration software. A multitude of security standards (e.g., OWASP) are considered and followed. Adobe Business Catalyst has a highly fault-tolerant server configuration in its data centers. All servers also have regular full and differential backups. However, it is important to note that recovery procedures cannot be initiated for individual file backups, as they are intended to perform "full recovery" of the servers in the event of a hardware or software failure only.” - Business Catalyst

6) Business Catalyst is constantly updating with new features, fixing bugs and patching data.

What does that mean to you?

  • You can rest with a peace of mind.

7) Enjoy an all-in-one platform that is designed for business owners.

What does that mean to you?

  • You log in and have immediate access to your contact database, orders, web form submissions, products, catalogs, web pages, and email marketing campaigns from one central location — all built to work together.
